Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) has been forced to cancel some procedures and divert patients due to a cyberattack that caused them to take some of their IT systems offline. Established in 1948, the not-for-profit community healthcare system provides medical services to a 21-county area in North Florida, South Georgia and South Alabama. On February 3, TMH reported that late Thursday night, they had been the victim of a cyberattack that caused them to disconnect some of their IT systems and start using backup protocols. On February 5, they announced that the issue had not been resolved, and all non-emergency surgical and outpatient procedures scheduled for February 6 were canceled and rescheduled. TMH stated that they had implemented incident response protocols as soon as they discovered the attack, and that their backup and downtime protocols allowed them to continue providing care to their patients. They also mentioned that they were using paper documentation due to the downtime, and apologized for any delays this may cause. They also said that an investigation into the incident was ongoing, but did not provide any details on the type of cyberattack or if any personal or health information was compromised. It is believed that the attack may have been ransomware, as the organization had to disconnect some of their IT systems to contain the incident. SecurityWeek has contacted TMH for more information on the incident, and will update the article when they receive a response.
