Enterprises that use endpoint security and management technologies are facing an issue of increasing complexity, as the number of devices that need to be managed is growing and the number of available tools to manage them is also increasing. A survey of 380 security professionals in North America, conducted by the Enterprise Services Group and commissioned by Syxsense, showed that companies with more tools to manage their endpoints had a higher proportion of unmanaged endpoints than those with fewer. This complexity is leading to worse security. The survey revealed that Windows PCs were the most common devices under management, followed by IoT devices, Chromebooks, Android devices, and phones and tablets running iOS. The majority of respondents said that the task of managing their devices has become easier in the past two years. Additionally, a third of organizations reported multiple endpoint-related security incidents, with 54% saying that more than 20% of their endpoints were unmanaged. Implementing dedicated endpoint protection solutions has a positive effect on security, as 44% of respondents said that they discovered unsecured systems when putting such products into production. The biggest challenge in endpoint management is patch management, with 34% of respondents saying that a major challenge was aligning IT and security priorities for patching, and a similar number saying that tracking specific vulnerabilities and patch management were the most serious issue.
