Microsoft and Adobe have joined forces to incorporate Adobe Acrobat's PDF rendering engine directly into the Edge browser, replacing the existing PDF engine. Starting in March 2023, new versions of Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 and Windows 11 will be released that include this new PDF engine. Companies can choose to try out the new PDF integration for their business activities on managed devices. The two companies are working together to improve the PDF experience and value that users have come to expect in Microsoft Edge by using Adobe Acrobat's PDF rendering engine. This will give users a unique PDF experience that includes more accurate colors and graphics, better performance, secure PDF handling, and improved accessibility - including better text selection and read-aloud narration. All of these features will be free of charge. Microsoft will retire its current Microsoft Edge PDF engine in March 2024, a year after the new integration is released. This will give businesses enough time to test the new rendering engine with PDF documents used in their operations. The new features that will be available in Microsoft Edge with this integration are shown in the video. If users want more advanced PDF features, such as the ability to edit text and images, convert PDFs to other file formats, and combine files, they can purchase an Acrobat subscription that will enable these features in Microsoft Edge through a browser extension.
