Facebook Oversight Board Will Investigate Deepfake Porn Problem

Facebook has made a big bet on artificial intelligence as the future of content moderation.
Bad actors are becoming equally adept at using this cutting-edge technology to scam users with convincing fake videos and images.
One of the most disturbing examples of this is the rising prevalence of deepfake porn, often targeting celebrities.
This week, Facebook's semi-independent Oversight Board announced it will take a closer look at the problem to see if Facebook has adequate policies in place to address it.
According to the Board, it will examine two instances of explicit AI-generated images of public figures, one woman in the US and one in India.
They're doing this to see if Facebook is consistent in the enforcement of its rules around the world.
Of course, Facebook isn't required to abide by any of the Board's decisions.
A report on this problem could help turn up public pressure on Facebook to take stronger action.
