Taylor Swift Bot Attack Highlights Need for Ticketmaster Protection

Taylor Swift fans were recently frustrated after being unable to purchase tickets for her world tour. Unfortunately, the struggle was the result of an organized bot attack, making the availability of tickets for the general public increasingly sparse. A bot attack is a malicious, automated attack where bots are utilized to purchase large amounts of tickets with the purpose of reselling them. Ticketmaster is one of the most commonly affected ticket resellers by these attacks. Hackers often employ bots to exploit technical vulnerabilities, which is what happened in the case of Taylor Swift, who became one of the latest victims of a bot attack. To reduce the risk of having your tickets purchased by bots, there are a few measures you can take. First and foremost, protect your online accounts with strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication. You can also find out if Ticketmaster is offering verified resale programs and Secure Ticketing protocols. Additionally, Ticketmaster offers a “Secure Ticketing” feature, which is a program that can identify people buying tickets through bots. If suspicious activity is noticed and identified, Ticketmaster will notify purchasers and cancel their tickets. Although Ticketmaster and other ticket resellers have made steps to fight against bots, it is necessary for fans to be aware of the risk of being sniped by bots. This knowledge is just as important as the precautionary measures that Ticketmaster offers for the prevention of ticket fraud. In the case of the Taylor Swift bot attack, it is not only the fans that were affected. The artist and her team were, too. To help protect artists from bot attacks, Ticketmaster and other ticketing resellers need to continue to take steps towards protecting their site and its users. As ticket fraud becomes an increasingly common problem, it is necessary to stick to the Ticketmaster guidelines and precautions to protect yourself, along with being aware of the fraudulent ticket resellers that live online. Ticketmaster, along with other ticket resellers, will continue to do what’s necessary to protect their customers against fraud and ticket scalping.
